Dr. Schmeltzer is originally from the state of Illinois, he was called to Texas for undergrad at Texas A&M. He then returned to his home state of Illinois for Vet School. Post Vet School, Dr. Schmeltzer moved to Delaware and Maryland where he practiced equine medicine (his first true love) for 4 years. After his stint in equine medicine Dr. Schmeltzer wanted to be back in Texas (can't blame him) shortly after the opening of Retama Raceway.  He began to practice small animal and decided he was where he wanted to be and we couldn't be happier! Dr. Schmeltzer has been a staple of our OCRAH team for the past 17 years and we wouldn't want to change it one bit. Dr. Schmeltzer spends his free time enjoying the outdoors with his wife, daughter, dog, barn cats and cows. As well as going on a bike ride, a run or going to see his daughter.
